Sophomore distance runner Corey Honeycutt has been named the Western State Conference Track Athlete of the Year. The Golden Valley product is the first female athlete to earn the award under 16 year head coach Lindie Kane.

“Corey had an exceptional track season,” said Kane. “She remained focused, determined and worked extremely hard in daily training sessions. It is so hard to perform at such an intense and competitive level each week and remain injury free, but Corey was able to do just that. We are all so proud of what she accomplished this season.”

On May 22nd, Honeycutt won the state title in the 800-meter run at the 2010 California Community College Track and Field Championships. Honeycutt finished just a second in front of Danielle Low from L.A. Trade Tech. The state title was the first for Lindie Kane.

Honeycutt broke school records twice this season, never lost a race and was ranked fourth in the nation among community college runners with her time of 2:09.67, which she set at the Southern California Championships.
