Spring Break for COC students is right around the corner. The short vacation is scheduled to begin April 5. But as students here and all over the country gear up for a week of fun and relaxation, there are some things to keep in mind.
Most students we spoke to on campus shared that they will be heading to the beach, hanging out with friends, or just getting some rest from the stress of schoolwork. For those going outside in the sun, remember to protect yourself from UV rays appropriately and stay hydrated with water.
But many students also travel abroad to popular Spring Break destinations like Mexico. And if you or anyone you know is one of those who plans to travel outside the country, beware of warnings and alerts. Due to recent drug-related violence in border regions, the U.S. Department is advising travelers to stay away. Tourist locations such as Cancun and Cabo San Lucas are not included in these advisories. However, in any foreign country, keep these safety suggestions in mind: Avoid underage and/or excessive drinking, use only licensed taxis, and always be aware of your surroundings.
