Opinion: Local Fruits and Vegetables at Your Fingertips

The Santa Clarita Valley community recently banded together to host an ongoing farmer’s market every Saturday morning in north Valencia. Local growers gather at Chesebro Park on the corner of McBean Parkway and Sunset Hills Drive every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to set up shop and sell their fresh fruits and vegetables.

This particular farmer’s market is geared towards families and the community. Situated right in the middle of a neighborhood, and adjacent to North Park Elementary School, this farmer’s market provides a comfortable atmosphere for all.  Involving kids in the process of picking out fresh fruits and vegetables early on in childhood can teach them good eating habits as well as healthfulness.

Buying your fruits and vegetables at a local farmer’s market can end up saving you time and money. By purchasing exactly what you want in the amount in which you want it, you can avoid buying in bulk. Simply pick out what you want, pay, and move onto the next tent to see what they have to offer.

Today’s consumers tend to seek out organic fruits and vegetables at big business grocers when they can find the exact same products at local farmer’s markets at lower prices. By buying locally grown products, we support local growers, their business, and ultimately our community’s commerce.
