Swim Meet

At Friday’s Western State Conference Quad swim meet, hosted by the Canyons Aquatic Club, the Women’s swim team made school history. In the day’s third event, the Women’s 200 meter medley relay, Chelsea Schmidt, Leanna Walter, Taylor Bellina and Kaley Meister broke the school record set in 2002 with a combined time of 2:00.93.

The day would prove successful for the women with Courtney Smith winning the Women’s 50 meter backstroke with a time of 32.10 seconds and Leanna Walter decimating her opponents, beating her closest competitor by nearly 2.5 seconds finishing with a time of 33.40 seconds. Walter also placed second in the 100 meter individual medley and Taylor Bellina placed second in the 50 meter butterfly and third in the 500 yard freestyle.

The day did not prove as successful for the men with top performer Billy Kutylo capturing the sole victory for the men in the 100 meter breaststroke. Kutylo also added a third place finish to his day in the 200 meter individual medley. Cougar swimming will travel to Bakersfield for a morning meet on March 6th.
